This speaks for itself!

Ok- a couple of things to add from today's GH: My new bifocal eyeglasses must be affecting my hearing as well as my vision. I could swear Nik told Nadine that she rode well without a "face"...hmmm. Also that Nadine told Nik he was a hopeless thumb? Carly also sounds like she is saying "MikeO" instead of Michael...

Reality or just not real?

I couldn't believe my eyes when I got to a certain part of the Dorothy Cannell book! It is such a fun book, as the whole series is, and I can incorporate a book review both here(when I finish the book) and in the novel I am writing! Gotta love Dorothy!

Then, when I logged on to write this, imagine my HORROR to discover that OJ Simpson wants to be on Donald Trumps' "The Apprentice", and that TMZ (I'm addicted to TMZ to watch celeb train wrecks) reports that he is under serious consideration! Well, on the other hand, it might be fun to watch The Donald ridicule him and make him lunge for The Donald on TV and get OJ put away for good! A bonus could be that if he earns any money for appearing it would go right to The Goldmans!

I'm back with news of the weird!

There were more strange lights spotted over the skies of Phoenix on Monday night. One witness quipped that "maybe it is aliens coming to save us from ourselves".

Remember the two men in NY accused of wheeling their pals dead body down a street and trying to cash his check? Well the charges have been dropped. It seems two autopsies couldn't prove the time of death and the friends claim they didn't know he was dead-- they thought he was just in a coma!

Do geese see god?

More later-- time for a library run before it gets too hot out!

Who put the SPAM in your Lucky Charms this morning?

I don't get a lot of SPAM these days, thank goodness. AOL has a separate mail folder for anything that might be SPAM, and I check it when I think of it. Not often.

This weekend, I learned the origin of the term SPAM as used to describe junk email that is sent to the masses randomly. I never would have guessed that it originated with the Monty Python SPAM skit. The explanation is that in the skit the word SPAM is an annoying and constant interruption in the normal flow of things. Someone coined the phrase for email in a Usenet group several years ago and now it is a word that anyone with email access will understand immediately.

Ah, it is knowing these little important details in life that count. Isn't it?

I read a really good book this weekend, by author Karen Joy Fowler. The book is "Wit's End" and is a story within a story within the past and present. Quirky, funny, sad...it was the kind of book which made me not only laugh, but tear up and also make sure I had my dictionary handy to look up the most unusual words and phrases I've read in awhile. If you've got a block of time to devote to a book, this is one for you, since you will absolutely not want to put it down.

General Hospital is getting way too dark again. I am so not paying attention (even though the TV is on), that I sent Karen some scoops that had ALREADY HAPPENED on air and I didn't even notice! How bad is that? Especially since part of my job is to gather news and scoops for the site! I'm very sad to see that Dylan Cash is leaving since it has been fun watching him grow up on the show. On the other hand, maybe he'll have some time to just be a kid now, while he still can, and be away from stories involving mobsters and guns. I'm also starting to think that if most households now have Soapnet (I wonder what the numbers are on that), it might be time to move GH to strictly a Soapnet show. Maybe for all the ABC soaps. Then create some whole new genre for daytime tv. No, I don't have any brilliant ideas on that...actually, I'd prefer to just keep the Idiot Box off and read and listen to talk radio.

Desperate Housewives was back last night. My favorite part? Susan's cousin-- what a hot young guy. Wow~ My least favorite part? The church angle because it is all of a sudden so forefront, and it was so lame that the Priest would come to marry Carlos and Gaby without even a marriage license, blood tests, or WITNESSES!!! I think DH may have Jumped the Shark with this episode. Or, it could be that I just no longer care after the Writer's Strike and such a long break. I will give House another chance, and probably Grey's Anatomy, but they sure don't hold the interest that they used to.

News of the Weird

I've been listening to late night talk radio again. Big surprise, eh? A most interesting story was about children who remember their past lives. Kids are so much more open to the paranormal and I found it fascinating to listen to the story of a little boy who remembered being a pilot and crashing in WWII.

Today's news of the weird is that a pack of black squirrels attacked and killed a stray dog in a park in Russia. There were evidently no pine cones on the trees at all this year, causing starvation and agitation and the squirrels just banded together and attacked the dog for food. Previous reports include chipmunks attacking cats. Sophie is shaking her head at that one, but even though we aren't in Russia, I'm glad she is an indoor Mackeral Tabby.

General Hospital-- misery, murder, death and shooting of a boy. Carly's son who Sonny keeps calling his son. Well maybe in theory, but he isn't his biological dad, yet Carly is the bio mom and she should have had some say in where the kid went with Sonny. Nikolas is crazed with his brain tumor. No sign of Bobbie or Mike....Ick, my eyes this show hurts!

Gh Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

Maxie always is so well dressed and groomed. I just about cracked a rib laughing when I saw part of her hair falling over her forehead just like Spinelli's when she was talking to him! How cute was that? It's all in the little things, because you cannot count on GH for the big things!

Like Shenanigans on South Park. I don't watch South Park but I casually introduced the word in conversation with hubby and he said "That's a South Park Episode"!!! You may be one or two up on me you know who friend, but I have sources! LOL!

Dunkley takes a dip: Firefighters, tow truck rescue cow from swimming pool

By Patrick Anderson
Staff writer

ESSEX — A team of firefighters, with the help of a tow truck, pulled a cow out of an Eastern Avenue swimming pool Saturday morning after the animal escaped from its pen and plunged into the icy water while trying to cross the pool's winter cover.

Around a dozen firefighters responded to a farm at 64 Eastern Ave. after receiving a call for help at 9:45 a.m. Saturday. They found the cow with its head above the water, resting against the side of the pool, and its legs submerged, sticking through the pool cover, Essex Deputy Chief Paul Doucette said yesterday.

Doucette said his men tried unsuccessfully to drag the cow, which was shaking because of the cold, out of the pool by its hindquarters before the tow truck, from Ernie's Service Station, arrived.

Firefighters slid a set of straps underneath the cow and the truck hoisted it out of the water and dropped it back on dry land about 30 minutes after the call was made, Doucette said. After the cow was out of the pool, the men covered it with blankets to try to warm it up while a veterinarian was called in to make sure the animal was alright.

The cow, named Dunkley, was walking around and doing fine yesterday, said Chris Fogarty, who was working on the farm.

Fogarty said someone must have left one of the gates to the pen open, allowing some of the cows to get out and begin roaming around. The pool is located close to a house on the rear of the property, away from the street and the cow pasture.

Manchester firefighter Warren Grant, a former Essex firefighter who was called in because of his familiarity with livestock, said he didn't know why the cow tried to cross the pool, but may have mistaken the green cover over it for grass.

Grant, who worked on a farm for 20 years before becoming a firefighter, said the only similar incident he had been involved in was when a horse escaped from its stable a few winters ago, ran out onto the frozen salt marsh and eventually fell through the ice.

Grant estimated Dunkley weighed more than 1,000 pounds and said cows are not known for their ability in the water.

"They can do a doggy paddle for a little while, but are not really built for swimming," Grant said. "She was pretty worn out by the time we got to her."

Essex Fire Lt. Joe Lafata said the incident was unusual, but turned out well.

"I have never been on a call like that before," Lafata said. "It was a strange call with a happy ending."

The above story also aired on WHDH TV, but this report is from Gloucester Times

1976 At precisely 9:47 am on April 1, Pluto will pass behind Jupiter, causing a brief reduction in Earth's gravitational pull. Astronomer Patrick Moore urges his BBC Radio audience to jump into the air at that exact moment to experience a floating sensation. At 9:48, dozens of light-headed listeners begin calling the station to report their success.

1984 Never mind the Cold War; the Soviets want to initiate unfettered discussions with Americans via Usenet newsgroups. This according to a message from what appears to be a Kremlin server (kremvax.UUCP). Thus the Internet hoax is born. When Moscow's first real Usenet site appears years later, it's named kremvax.

1994 A proposed law will ban online sex chat and inebriated Web surfing. "Congress apparently thinks being drunk on a highway is bad no matter what kind of highway it is," editorializes PC Computing. The bill's supposed sponsor, Senator Ted Kennedy, is not in on the joke. After an onslaught of complaints from drunken perverts, he issues a formal denial.

Book Alert! GH Line of the Day for Mon 3/31

It's a great week for reading! I've just finished the 2nd book in one of my all time favorite series (anticipating many more books from this author!)
I can't say enough about the wacky, funny, daring antics of Izzie Spellman and family. Links below- buy from Amazon using them! I've now made a grand total of $6.77 cents in a year. At least I think that is what it is. I won't even get paid until I make $10 and then I get the best thing in the world-- an Amazon gift certificate! WOW...I wonder what I'll have to pay in taxes on all this income! LOL!

I started a new book at midnight last night. It's a wonder I managed to put it down and get some sleep. Part One of the book is entitled "Hindsight"--my nickname! It is set in North Carolina and is about a special family with unusual powers and edible flowers and a magic apple tree! Link below-- again with the Amazon thingy..

Super Glue

Happy Monday! I had another of my infamous glue-accidents this weekend. I am not good with glue. This time, I had a broken item (keeping this mysterious on purpose) and decided to use Super Glue again, since I actually had some success earlier in the week when I broke a plate. Uh-oh-- the Super Glue cap had glued itself to the tube.
Naturally, I opened my blabber mouth and told my husband. He, of course, shook his head in dismay and informed me that I am now BANNED from using glue. Glue of any type. Glue is not my friend. Etc etc etc.

So, this morning, I sat down and Googled super glue and found that it was easy enough to just soak the tube in warm soapy water for a little while and the cap came off! Now I can't wait for Mike to get home and use the glue on the item in question so I don't mess things up again. I am never to use glue again without Adult Supervision. Mike has nightmares about me gluing all my fingers together and not being able to dial for help. Or type and therefore work!

GH-- well twice in two different real life people's lives (what a whacked sentence), GH has been interuppted by a President getting shot. JFK and Ronald Reagan. Just saying---weird. Should be another fun week what with Michael getting shot, and whatever the heck else is going to happen. Spoilers are drying up faster than super glue these days. Maybe Sonny has a hit out on people who leak storylines?

Hillary Clinton--- so far in debt to so many people. She is just stiffing people for money she owes them left and right as far as I can tell from the news. Hey, that's a great way to build confidence in voters. Just saying.....not so smart.

Shout out to my new bud Gail! I needed a new happy funny read to join my regular crowd and expand my horizons with your wit and our amazing coincidences in our lives!
Azanna Azanna Azanna....go ahead Gail-- through it out there into as many sentences as you can! Azanna loves it!

Oh and the bestest most happy news-- Kathy Lee Gifford is joining The Today show for their 4th hour. Good thing I can pick from The View or Will and Grace at that time--or just plunk my butt down here at the computer and do some work. I am again, very studiously avoiding work. It might have something to do with the Death Pool on 3 different people we know as to who goes first, and then there is the whole can I wear the same outfit to all 3 funerals? Why do people have to go and get sick and die anyway? It doesn't seem fair.....

Stay well, will you? ALL of you!

Rainy Friday

The above is just one picture taken by Elevision! Visit this link for the story, and watch for the show to appear, I believe on Animal Planet. Elevision Story
Hey, better rain than snow!!! A good day to catch up on emails, work on the book, work on next weeks newspaper article, and delay all of the above by blogging!

I had a wonderful visit with my sister in law and niece yesterday. It was my first time seeing them in about 12 years or more. Our niece is now 26! She was just a teen when I last spent time with her. She's grown into a lovely young woman who is extra bright, funny, and loving. It was a weird day because they were here to make final arrangements for our nieces dad, who is the ex-husband of my husband's sister. He's in Hospice care now and they had to have a whole series of discussions with him and then go to the local funeral home.....but it all seems to have gone smoothly and now it's just a waiting game. We talked about it quite a bit, but we also had many other things to share. Kate shares my love of music, she remembers watching Dark Shadows on the Sci-Fi channel with me, she believes in fairies and elves, and adores cats! She also rescued an abused dog and she and her boyfriend spoil him silly. My SIL looks great too---amazing after the accident last year when a horse kicked her in the face. All in all, and despite the sad circumstances it really was a wonderful day and I was glad to give them some love and attention. I only wish they lived closer.

Oh--and I'll be up late tonight/tomorrow morning! My favorite Theoretical Physicist, Dr Michiu Kaku is on Coast to Coast with Art Bell filling in as host tonight! Check your local radio station listings. Dr Kaku will be discussing his new book.

You can buy the book by clicking on the picture above. I always love to listen to Dr Kaku since he is one of the smartest and most articulate people on the planet today. He makes the most complicated phsyics seem easy and even perfectly reasonable enough to wrap your brain around!

Funny Monday

Guess what the above is????
Are you ready kids? Fun stuff today!

Breaking news: "The ship leaves at noon and the salmon better be on it". Inside joke sort of-- I woke myself up the other morning saying the above and I have NO IDEA what it means or why I said it! I've shared it with others and now I have friends and family walking around saying it at random times and laughing because it's just so silly!

I'm reading a really funny book and have the sequel at hand also.

Hoppy Easter

Marlea is now eight months old but we first noticed that there were three distinct numbers in the iris of her eyes at about two months old. There is a 2 and 3 in the right eye and a 9 in the left. We have searched to find anyone else who has the same patterns or even something similar with no luck, even the pediatrician says they have never seen anything like it. We think it is pretty cool and thought the Coast audience might too.

Hoppy, Happy Easter to all! I found the above photos and story at Coast to Coast
How bizarre is that? It doesn't look photoshopped to me--who would ever even think to dream something like that up?

Speaking of dreams, I am on a roll for weird dreams again. Crazy dreams about waking up to find dozens of strangers in my house who have moved in with all sorts of exotic animals and huge animals in the back yard. Then yesterday, I woke up talking in my sleep and said "The ship leaves at noon and the salmon better be on it". HUH???

I may have another interesting blog later with photos of the back of my own eyes from my recent eye exam! It depends how creepy they really look....

Wednesday Woes & GH Scoops

It seems that almost everyone I know has some sort of major problem or problems today. Hence the title Wednesday Woes. It is most unusual, but for me things have finally settled into a fairly good place. So, of course, me being me, I'm waiting for the proverbial piano to fall from the sky and I end up splattered in some horribly embarrasing place. We must find some fun in this day!

The above picture is a now famous cornflake. Story is from annanova.com

The £100,000 cornflake

Bidding for a cornflake resembling the US state of Illinois has reached more than £100,000 on eBay.

Two sisters listed 'The Great Illinois Corn Flake' on the auction site, promising it had undergone no cosmetic alterations.

Emily McIntire, a 15-year-old in high school from Chesapeake, Virginia, said she was grabbing fistfuls of cereal on her way to class when she found the flake.

"It was almost to my mouth, it didn't look like Illinois at first because it was held the wrong way," she said.

But then she noticed the resemblance and said: "Oh my goodness, it's Illinois."

Her 23-year-old sister, Melissa, said their parents suggested selling it for fun. They're offering free shipping, providing the buyer is in Illinois.

"At the moment it's residing in a fine jewellery box with a lot of cotton wrapped around it to keep it safe," said Melissa.

The McIntire sisters say they've decided to use the proceeds from the eBay sale to buy more boxes of Frosted Flakes.

"We've got to replace the one we've already sold," Melissa said. "We like cereal."

Now wasn't that fun? More fun than General Hospital for sure. Let's see-- scoops are saying Carly loses the baby. Sonny has to tell Kate that his kid shot her. We've had another explosion. Nikolas is taking illegal drugs from an evil doctor.
Monica is going to finally get busted for her drinking problem.
Here's the rest from Linda Hirsch;
GENERAL HOSPITAL: Ric and Marianna fear the worst when Randy's body is discovered. Trevor blackmails Ric, claiming he has the murder weapon used against Randy with Marianna's fingerprints on it. Ric gives into Trevor's blackmail in order to protect Marianna and signs over the deed to the waterfront property. Jason has it out with Monica, who continues to drink. Monica tells Jason she loves him and that he will always be her son. Nikolas tells Ian he won't give him any money until he knows Ian can give him an unlimited supply of the drug that allows him to keep seeing Emily. Claudia reveals she knew exactly whom Sonny was when she slept with him. Ric confronts Marianna about being in cahoots with Trevor. Marianna admits her wrongdoings but claims her feelings for Ric are genuine. Ric wants to team up with Sonny to destroy Trevor. Spinelli turns to Jason for advice about how to seduce a woman. Kate balks at Jax taking an active role in their new publishing venture, but they're soon working as a team. Maxie throws her new job as Kate's assistant in Lulu's face.

All I can say is you can tell Guza is back in town. Explosions, mob stuff and babies dead before they are born. Worse yet, Spinelli might actually lose his virginity. Ow, my eyes-- get the needles out!

Cheers!

Two for Tuesday

Just two quick topics today: enough with the politics, the name calling and business as usual during a presidential campaign. No more for me. I'll vote how I plan to and not watch another minute of the talking heads.

Second-- here it is almost spring and going to snow again tonight. Or turn to rain. Or melt. Whatever--I can feel it in my bones and don't need to watch the news. I have overdue library books, so I'm going to sit and read. I got up at 4:30 this morning and have done a full days writing and housework. Now if I can keep my eyes open for GH at three, maybe it will annoy me enough to wake me up!

Not So Deep Thoughts

The above is all over the net, but I got it from the CoasttoCoast AM site, along with this description:
The 'Creepy Gnome'
People in an Argentinean town are said to be frightened by a "creepy gnome" who stalks the streets at night. The short person or midget wears a pointy hat and has an unusual sideways walk.

It was also on the Fox25 Morning News in Boston. I love that show. They play a lot of cool music, have a lot of laughs, poke fun at politicians and the elections, yet still manage to get the serious news, weather and traffic done efficiently.

The Creepy Gnome needs to be the next GH serial killer!!!! Or one of Sonny's bodyguards! Or Carly and Jax's BABY!!!! LOL!!!

After a phase of not being able to write, now I can't stop! I got a whole bunch of great new ideas to flesh out my book since I found myself utterly bored by it yesterday after re-reading it for about the 50th time. I have about 8 ideas for my newspaper column, AND I have about 30 library books to read still.

My favorite of the month so far remains the latest by the wonderful Candace Havens

Of course I think you should buy the whole series as they are great to read in order-- even though you don't have to since each book is a fun read on its own!

Miaou for now!

Water Supply

Today's news about traces of prescription drugs being found in public water supplies around the country reminds me of a bad soap opera plot. Yet, unfortunately it is true. I wonder if there will be a complete investigation as to how this is happening and if we will get honest answers from our Government. I just heard on the news now that they say it is because we don't metabolize all of the medication and it is excreted from our bodies and flushed. They also claim it won't harm humans or that "there is no evidence that it will harm humans". Then they show male fish with female reproductive organs...ewww....and people eat fish as well as drink water. Then, of course, there is mad cow disease, sick cows killed and the meat out there for sale! Being of the vegetarian persuasion those things won't affect me personally. Pesticides and genetically engineered fruits and vegetables will. No wonder so many people are sick!

I have written to the head of the Water Division in my city to ask if new tests will be done and if a statement will be issued soon. I also suggested that since this is a nationwide problem that the town might ask for Federal funding to do the testing.

Maybe some of my readers might do the same, or even call their local water department and see what you get for an answer. I'd love to hear what you get for a response.

Just one more thing to worry about, eh?

Writer's Block

So the TV and Movie writers are back to work. I now have writer's block!!!!! I realized I hadn't blogged in almost a whole week, had a hard time writing anything worthwhile for the news paper and have managed 2 whole paragraphs on my book. This is not a good thing!

I've also not been paying attention to TV at all. I've read Karen's GH schoops and all I think is doom and gloom and how redundant it seems. I gave up on Big Brother almost from the start, and I could not possibly care and less about American Idol this season.

Maybe it's the weather, tons of rain and wind and the thought that spring might be coming soon, it's just not fast enough to suit me. It's been a long winter for most parts of the country.

Today I've found myself doing three loads of laundry, loading and unloading the dishwasher, reading and doing anything I can to avoid writing. Some of my author friends tell me this happens to everyone and I'll just have to snap out of it.

I'm going back to finish my book now--the one I'm reading that is!!!!!

Alibi in High Heels is available now

From Gemma Halliday

Alibi in High Heels is now out!

Baguettes, bodies, and haute couture galore! Shoe designer turned amateur sleuth, Maddie Springer, is at it again, this time in fabulously fashionable Paris. When Europe’s designer de jour, Jean Luc LeCroix, invites Maddie to show her creations at Paris Fashion Week, Maddie’s sure she’s died and gone to heaven. That is until Jean Luc’s top model is found dead on the runway, stabbed with a familiar stiletto heel. Sure someone is trying to frame her, Maddie enlists the help of her friends, including the sexy Detective Jack Ramirez, to uncover a daring jewel heist, a devious blackmailer, and even a few skeletons lurking in the closets of those closest to her. But as the evidence mounts, Maddie becomes the prime suspect and Ramirez is stuck between a badge and a cute blonde with a tendency for trouble. Will he stand by her as she attempts to track down an international killer, or will this be the case that finally comes between them? One thing’s for sure, if Maddie doesn’t uncover the real killer soon, she may be saying her final adieu.

Watch a video book trailer for Alibi In High Heels here to get a sneak peak of the action.

Order your copy now at Amazon.com.

Currently I had two vices: Mexican food and Mexican men. Thanks to an early morning shooting on Olympic that had my boyfriend, Detective Jack Ramirez, crawling out of bed at the crack of dawn, I couldn’t indulge in the latter. Which left me with the former, in the form of a grande nachos supremo at The Whole Enchilada in Beverly Hills. And I had to admit the gooey cheddar and salsa induced semi-orgasm I was experiencing was almost as good as what I'd had planned for Ramirez this morning.

Almost.

"Tell me again about the sex?" my best friend, Dana, asked, leaning both of her elbows on the table across from me.

I grinned. I couldn't help it. After spending the night with Ramirez, there was nothing I could do to wipe that sucker off. "It was hot."

Dana licked her lips. "How hot?"

I picked up a stray jalapeño from my plate and held it up. "Ten of these and you still wouldn’t even be close."

Dana sighed. Then started fanning herself with a napkin imprinted with a dancing cactus. "You know, it's been so long, I can hardly even remember what a one jalapeño night would be like."

Dana's current boyfriend de jour was Ricky Montgomery, who played the hunky gardener on the hit TV show Magnolia Lane. Amazingly, my fated-to-short-term-romance friend had actually taken a vow of monogamy with Ricky, which, thus far, had lasted a record nine months. I was actually pretty proud of Dana. Especially considering that as soon as shooting had ended for the Magnolia Lane season, Ricky had flown off to Croatia to do a film with Natalie Portman. Ricky said the script was amazing and had Oscar written all over it. Dana said she was investing in a battery powered rabbit and praying they wrapped quickly.

"So, when is Ricky coming back?" I asked around a bite of cool sour cream and hot salsa. I'm telling you, pure heaven.

"Three more weeks. I'm just not sure I can make it, Maddie. This is the longest I've ever gone without sex."

I raised an eyebrow. "Ever?"

Dana nodded vigorously. "Since ninth grade."

Wow. I think in ninth grade I was still negotiating with Bobby Preston over second base.

"So, why don't you just go visit him?"

She shook her head. "Can't. The set's in a military zone. They needed all sorts of permits and things just to be there. Booty call isn't exactly on the list of approved reasons."

"Sorry."

"Thanks." Dana sipped at her iced tea, giving my jalapeño a longing look.

"If it makes you feel any better, last night was the only action I've gotten in weeks, too." Not to mention that I was currently substituting a morning of naked sheet wrestling with rice and beans.

Dana sighed again, the kind that only blonde haired, blue eyed wanna-be actresses can conjure up without sounding fake. "Not really, but thanks for trying."

"Hey, how about we go for pedis? A fresh coat of toenail polish always makes me feel better. I've got an appointment at Fernando's in twenty minutes. Wanna join me?"

Dana shook her head, her pony-tail whipping her cheeks. "Sorry, no can do. I've got an audition at one. I'm reading for the part of a street walker on that new David E. Kelly show. I can so nail this one."

I looked her up and down, taking in her denim micro-mini, three-inch heels, and pink crop top. I hated to admit it, but she so could.

After I'd fully consumed my nacho supremeo, stopping just short of actually licking the plate, Dana and I walked down Santa Monica, making a right on Beverly where my little red Jeep was parked at the end of the busy street in front of Fernando's salon. Normally actually walking two blocks in L.A. was an unheard of phenomenon, but this was prime Beverly Hills shopping territory. The boutiques lining the street held windows full of designer purses, thousand dollar tank tops, and Italian leather shoes with stitching so small, you'd swear it was the work of Leprechauns.

Dana paused in front of the Bellissimo Boutique. "Ohmigod, Mads! Are those yours?" She pointed to a pair of red, patent leather Mary Janes with a black kitten heel.

I grinned so wide I felt my cheeks crack. (And this time it had nothing to do with Ramirez or gooey cheddar-laden chips.)

Last year I had a moment of minor internet fame, which prompted a trendy local boutique to ask me to design a line of shoes for them, called High Heels Seduction. Not surprisingly, I squealed, squeaked and generally jumped around like a six year old minus her Ritalin. And then things got even better when, two months later, the first pair of Maddie Springer originals was sold to an up-and-coming young actress who just happened to be wearing them when she got arrested outside the Twilight Club on Sunset Boulevard for drug possession. Suddenly my shoes were all over Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, and even CNN. I got calls from the hippest shops in L.A. and Orange County, all clamoring to stock my High Heels Seduction.

Including, the Bellissimo Boutique.

"Yep," I said, beaming with a pride usually reserved for mothers sporting "student of the month" bumper stickers. "Those are my latest. You like?"

"I love! Oh, I so want a pair. Hey, you think you could do something for me to wear to the premier of Ricky's movie when you get back from Paris?"

Oh, did I forget to mention the best part of being a real fashion designer?

Once my shoes hit CNN, I got a call from Jean Luc Le Croix, the hottest new European fashion designer, asking me, little ‘ol me, to come show my shoes in his fall runway collection at Paris Fashion Week.

Paris!

I had truly died and gone to heaven. Not surprisingly, I'd first had a mild heart attack, then did a repeat of the six-year-old-Ritalin-addict thing. I was set to fly out next week and still hadn't come down off the high.

"Oui, oui, mademoiselle. What would you like?" I asked.

"Oh, I totally know what I want! I saw the cutest pair of wedge heeled sandals on J. Lo at the MTV awards. They were, like, black with this little trail of sequins going down the…" But Dana trailed off, her eyes fixing on a point just over my shoulder. Then suddenly going big and round.

"What?"

I spun around and stood rooted to the spot. A little yellow sports car was careening down Beverly at Daytona 500 speeds. It sideswiped a Hummer, narrowly missing a woman carrying a Dolce shopping bag, then bounced back into traffic, tires squealing.

"Ohmigod, Maddie," Dana said, her voice going high and wild. "Look out!"

I watched in horror as the little car cut across two lanes, jumping the curb and accelerating.

Straight toward me.

I hope you love Alibi in High Heels, as I'm hard at work on Maddie's next adventure, Mayhem in High Heels, coming in 2009!

An Alternate Reality

Since the local paper did not have time/space to run my column this week I've decided that I own it again-- so here it is. It should run in the print edition next week.

Foster care need is great in Danvers
By Laura Hinds
GETTING PERSONAL
Carla King of Danvers has worked as a foster care recruiter for many years. She has worked countless hours to find good foster homes for hundreds of children. On her own time, she finds way to raise funds to help these families give more to the children, including events where foster families can get together for a day of fun. I recently was in touch with her about the need for foster homes in Danvers. Carla sent me the following information, and I do feel it is important to get it in the public eye so that perhaps more families who are able to provide a stable home environment might consider becoming a foster family. I was really surprised and shocked that there are only two families in Danvers providing foster care on a steady basis. Danvers is very much a family oriented town. People have the resources here, but perhaps have never considered the idea of giving back by helping children in need.
From Carla King:
"We need more homes in Danvers and every town. Today, out of the Salem office there are 385 children in care. We have only 40 foster homes. Many children are in programs (which take care of more children at once), so they are not over crowded in the 40 homes. There are days when we don't have a place to put a 3-year-old girl or a 6-year-old boy. There have even been times when we had trouble placing a newborn. Then there are adolescents. They have a bad rap and are hard to place, while many of these teens thrive in a nurturing foster home and just want a safe place to stay so they can finish school.
“The Garvin family of North Street has provided a foster home for about a year. This is one of only two foster homes in Danvers, and the other has had only one placement, which resulted in adoption and, therefore, that family has not taken any more placements. We have some family members providing foster care in Danvers, but the Garvin family is the only Danvers family currently providing ongoing foster care.”
King provided some facts:
You don't have to own your own home to be a foster parent.
You have to have an income, but there is no minimal income so long as you can provide for a child in foster care.
You can be single, any age (over 18) and any nationality.
We welcome same sex couples.
There is a daily stipend for foster children.
To become a foster parent, one needs to first call Carla King in the Salem office, 978-825-3862. After an application and a home visit, the family can attend the training. There is no cost for the training. Once training is completed, references are done as well as a home study (which is an assessment of the people in the home) and, if approved, the home is given a license.
“There is a great deal of support from the Salem office, from get-togethers to meet other foster families, to support groups,” said King. “A social worker is assigned to each family to provide one-on-one support. There is a 24-hour hotline for foster parents as well as for the department.”
Please take the time, take stock of your situation and think about it. You, too, could help children and give them a chance at a better life in our lovely town of Danvers. Thank you,” said King.
Now, on to another subject, aquatic therapy, a topic I first wrote about in my Feb. 14 column. For the sake of clarification and to educate people that there are actually other facilities around, you can find aquatic therapy in Salem at the YMCA and there is a facility in Ipswich called Aquatic Therapy of New England. Check with your physician and insurance company for referrals. The main difference is that these pools are kept at a much cooler temperature, up to 10 degrees cooler, as I understand it. Speaking for myself and for some friends with whom I was in aquatic therapy, the heat makes all the difference. It is up to the individual: what works for some may not work for others.
Laura Hinds lives with her husband, Michael, on Burly Street.

A Whole Box of Fun

Sophie is very busy today, on patrol for Silly Squirrels.

Mike's parents have Class!!!! Aren't they something?

Who knew? Oswald might have talked to Ruby about killing JFK?? Who knew?

DALLAS (Reuters) - A batch of old documents linked to the slaying of President John F. Kennedy has reportedly been unearthed, including a highly suspect transcript of a conversation between assassin Lee Harvey Oswald and Oswald's killer Jack Ruby, the Dallas Morning News said on Sunday.

The newspaper said the Dallas County district attorney's office, which uncovered the documents, would display its discovery at a news conference on Monday morning.

The Morning News said the items found in an old safe in a Dallas courthouse included personal letters from former District Attorney Henry Wade, the prosecutor in the Ruby trial. Ruby shot Oswald two days after the president's death.

Also found were official records from Ruby's trial, a gun holster and clothing that probably belonged to Ruby and Oswald, District Attorney Craig Watkins told the newspaper.

But one potentially controversial item is a transcript of an exchange between Oswald and Ruby in which they discuss killing Kennedy to halt the mafia-busting agenda of his brother, Attorney General Robert Kennedy.

The Morning News said one theory about the transcript was that it was part of a movie script Wade was working on with producers, for a film that was never made.

The transcript resembles one published by the Warren Commission, which investigated Kennedy's assassination and concluded Oswald acted alone. The FBI had determined the conversation between Oswald and Ruby -- this time about killing Texas Gov. John Connally -- was definitely fake, the newspaper said.

Connally was riding in the car with Kennedy and was wounded in the attack.

The documents may be a Presidents' Day gift to conspiracy theorists who have long questioned the official U.S. government version that Oswald acted alone when he shot Kennedy on November 22, 1963, as the president's motorcade swept past the Texas School Book Depository in downtown Dallas.

ps the Danvers Witch trials would have made great TV!

Nightclub owner Ruby subsequently shot Oswald dead at point-blank range as police were escorting their prime suspect. Ruby died a few years later from cancer.

Some Monday Morning Fun

It's Monday already! No, I didn't watch the Big Giant Hollywood Awards Show last night! I haven't seen one of the movies and figured "Why bother?". We both quietly read our books, and then guiltily indulged in watching the very inane, yet somehow funny "Scott Baio is 46 and Pregnant" followed by "My Fair Brady, Maybe Baby" and then sleep. I tried to listen to Coast to Coast at 1, but didn't wake up until 2:20 AM when I heard that something they were going to talk about sounded interesting, but natch, I fell asleep and missed it. This is a good thing though, as sleep doesn't come easily to me.

Today is book editing day, newspaper article writing day for next week, final copy of this weeks article (the boring part of doing it) and hoping to get my neighbor in her 80's out to the library while it's a nice day! After reading my library article in the paper last week, she decided she wants her first library card and has asked me to take her one day soon! Maybe today if she's up to it!

Ok- some fun links!

Most Interesting Animals

The following pictures and description came to me in an email that is going around--thought I'd share it with my friends without sending multiple emails. Enjoy!

The odds of seeing an albino moose are astronomical and to see this in the upper peninsula of

Michigan, near Wisconsin , is even greater than astronomical. To see two of them together is

nearly impossible.

We wanted to share these photos with as many people as possible because you will probably

never have a chance to see this rare sight again. This is a really special treat, so enjoy the

shot of a life time.

Man walking Dog, Cat and Rat

My dear friend Azanna's new doggie, Frizzle. Frizzle has multiple names, but mostly answers to Frizzle!

Cheryl and Helen's doggie, Rufus:

One of Carolyn's horses, Lad:

Carolyn's most recent adoptee, Sam

This one speaks for itself!

Comcast Fails Me Again & Baby Ray

Well this morning I went to log in to my Comcast email, which is the one I use for my work at the newspaper. Guess what? My email account was deactivated and they have no idea why and asked me if I had moved and had I ever lived on Cook St. Never even heard of Cook St and I've lived in my present home for 15 years. So, since there are NO SUPERVISORS there on weekends, they are trying to tell me it can't be fixed until next week. I threatened heads rolling and legal action and now my request is supposed to be expedited for someone to call me later. Yeah, right, I went through this when I got someone else's voice mail and they got mine. No one ever called back and I ended up going back to Verizon for phone service.

The following came from Coast To Coast AM website Coast To Coast

Smilin' Baby Ray
Visitors to a British aquarium have likened the baby thornback ray (pictured) to a character featured on Doctor Who. In the sci-fi series, the 'Last Human' has become merely a translucent sheet of skin with eyes and a mouth.

Daffodils

It's going to snow again today. About 9 inches they say. I hate snow. I am sick of winter. It is the winter of my discontent.

Yet it doesn't matter. Because Mike brought me daffodils. They remind me that spring will come and the daffodils will come up in my garden again. Yet today, while the woodstove is burning to keep us warm, a touch of spring sits on my table.

Mike brought me daffodils!

On this snowy day I am reading a romantic mystery set in CT. I think it holds wide appeal and most women (some men) would enjoy it a lot. Here's a link.

Enjoy your Friday and Happy Weekend!

Actor David Groh- dead at 68

Variety.com is reporting the death of actor David Groh, best known for playing the husband on the TV sitcom "Rhoda" during the 1970's. He is said to have died from kidney cancer on Tuesday at the age of 68.

This is the second death of a former GH actor or actress in recent weeks. On February 1st, Shell Kepler (Amy Vining) died of renal failure at age 49.

The following details are his direct obituary as reported by Variety:

Groh later had recurring roles on such prime-time series as "Police Story" and on daytime TV as D.L. Brock on "General Hospital."

Born May 21, 1939, in New York, Groh was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Brown University. He attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art on a Fulbright scholarship.

After a stint in the Army, he studied at the Actors Studio and appeared in theater productions "so far off Broadway, my parents would take subways and buses and taxis to try to find me," he later said.

After he left "Rhoda" in 1977, Groh appeared on Broadway in Neil Simon's "Chapter Two" and in "Twilight of the Golds" in 1993. He also had film roles in "Two-Minute Warning" (1976) and "A Hero Ain't Nothin' but a Sandwich" (1978), among others.

Survivors include his wife, actress Kristin Andersen; a son, Spencer, from a previous marriage; his mother, Mildred; and a sister, Marilyn Mamann. Services are pending. His family suggests donations to the Actors Studio, 8341 De Longpre Ave., West Hollywood, CA 90069.

Wet Wet Wednesday

Image from FoxTV.com

Hi! Happy Day Before Valentine's Day! Have you bought a gift for your honey yet? Don't forget or you'll be in trouble! Don't forget your Mom if she's still around too-- Mom's love Valentine's from their kids, even when the kids are grown and out of the nest.

Here in the Boston area we are having tons of fun weather! Snow overnight, which changed to ice, to sleet, to rain, rain and more rain. The good news is that it is washing the snow away so many of us don't have to shovel.

Is everyone happy that the writer's strike is over? Have you been watching reruns of your favorite shows, or finding something else to watch or do? My husband's been happy to not have "Desperate Housewives" or "Grey's Anatomy" or "House" on. We have very different tastes in TV. Now truth be told, I don't miss them at all now that it's been reruns! Mike's had complete control of the TV remote and I haven't had to go to another room to watch anything. So, our TV has been tuned to such channels as the Food Network, whatever channel Spongebob is on, I guess Nik1 or Nik 2 or both. Comedy Central is also a favorite, as are The History Channel DIY Network, and something called RFD network. I leave the room for the last, because I think all he seems to watch is tractor pulls or some such thing? As for myself, my nose is in a book. No big surprise there, it is anyway. Yes, I watch TV and read at the same time. Adult Onset ADD? Or just too much to do?

Karen's got some good new GH scoops up at WUBS

I'm working on my book and listening to the soundtrack from Juno. I just love The Moldy Peaches! Oh and of course I'm reading three books at once when I get up from the computer! Doing the housewife routine of washing scatter rugs and vacuuming regular carpet and figuring out what's for supper. I do like writing the book and listening to music much more than housework--but I can't abide a mess either...so it's good that I can MultiTask...I like that better than Adult Onset ADD!

Stay well

Weird Tuesday

What is up with all the Internet cables being cut undersea in Egypt and India? There are 5-8 confirmed now. Gotta be sabotage, but who is doing it and WHY?

The Boston Globe is reporting that there may soon be skeletal remains of the Loch Ness Monster found...there has been no motion on sonar since the 1980's, so now the hunt is on for remains. Now that's a job I want next-- I want to be a Cryptozoologist!

Happy Tuesday! Vote if it's your states turn!

Writer's Strike

Well it sure seems like the writer's strike is about over and they may be back to work as soon as Wednesday. The question remains how many shows will return this season and how many will be delayed until fall. What will they do with reality shows, such as Big Brother 9 which is already slated to take up quite a bit of time each week.

How will the work of the so called scabs have affected the soaps? Will the writer's be able to change things or just ignore inconsistancy?

The Grammy's are tonight. I won't be watching--I already learned that Rush didn't win for the Best Rock Instrumental category and that's all I cared about. I'll get my books out and read and get some much needed beauty sleep instead!

The way things are looking I may either have 3 jobs by this time next week, or be facing another surgical procedure on my poor back. Wow- the fates are really throwing me some curves these days!

Hope you are all well and warm and have some good books! I have plenty of Amazon links for you to look for some goodies!

Jessica Alba Spooked

I found this story on the CoasttoCoastam.com website....very interesting!

February 6, 2008 - 2:23PM

Jessica Alba says she was attacked by a ghost when she was 17.

The star of The Eye claims she was visited by an otherworldly being, and was so terrified afterwards she refused to stay in her house.

Alba, 26, recalled: "I had no idea what it was. I felt this pressure and I couldn't get up, I couldn't scream, I couldn't talk, I couldn't do anything.

"Something definitely took the covers off me and I definitely couldn't get off the bed, and then, once I did, I screamed, ran to my parents' room and I don't think I spent many nights in that house ever again!

"There was definitely something in my parents' old house - I don't know what it was. I can't really explain it. But they got it blessed and they burned sage and stuff since then."

Alba - who is expecting her first child with fiance Cash Warren - also revealed the pregnancy has been playing havoc with her hormones.

"I think I've already thrown Cash out of the house twice since I've been pregnant," she said.

"He's like, 'Are you just pregnant? I hope you're just pregnant and acting crazy,' and I'm like, 'It has nothing to do with that!'

"And then we cry and we hug and he's like, 'You're pregnant, what do you want?' Little things get me so mad. You get so emotional when you're pregnant, and so irrational. It's totally dumb."
